Cenote Angelita #1

The Limestone bedrock of the Yucutan peninsula in Mexico contains a myriad of cave systems created over millenia by the collapse of bedrock and the inevitable flow of nature. When the collapse reveals groundwater underneath, a Cenote is created. Cenotes connect the surface of earth to subterranean bodies of water. The expedition travelled to the region to explore the Angelita Cenote, a mysterious sub aqua underworld shrowded in sulphur cloud and punctuated with dead trees and the deposits of the thick jungle that surrounds its rim.

    Fox Glacier

Fox Glacier #1

Fox Glacier #2

In total there are more than 3000 glaciers in New Zealand of various size and shape, the majority of which are located near the Main Divide of the Southern Alps on the South Island. The expedition travelled to this area to photograph both the Fox and Tasman glaciers. The Fox glacier is one of only two glaciers in the world that descend into a temperate rainforest. The contrast of steely glacial ice and moraine against the lush vegetation of the rainforest creates an incredible landscape that illustrates the beautiful and fragile nature of our Earth.

Nyiragongo #3

Mount Nyiragongo soars 3470 meters above the Virunga National park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nyiragongo is an active stratovolcano that cradles the world’s largest open lava lake at the base of its majestic main crater. With 34 recorded eruptions since 1882 Nyiragongo is in constant activity. Most recently an eruption in 2002 saw lava flow down the valley into the city of Goma with catastrophic consequences, slicing the city in half and leaving 120,000 homeless. The violence of Nyiragongo’s volcanic heart is juxtaposed with its rare natural beauty. In the moments when the sun and moon swap places on the horizon, Nyiragongo is lit by the glow of molten magma, an image that drew the expedition in with the hope of capturing this unique natural phenomenon.
